Teachers in under-resourced, high-stress schools sometimes leave abruptly in 'midnight runs' after reaching a breaking point. Two teachers at a Title I school quit within five days, one reportedly saying good night and then calling the office the next morning to announce she would not return. Students were moved to the cafeteria and her classroom left largely empty. Colleagues express envy and fantasy of walking away, yet financial realities often prevent doing so.
