The European Union will reveal its ratings for candidate countries later today, assessing progress toward membership. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and enlargement commissioner Marta Kos will present the commission's assessment early afternoon. The commission will evaluate the worsening situation in Georgia, attempts to reform Ukraine despite ongoing Russian aggression, and conditions in western Balkan countries including Serbia where protests persist against Aleksandar Vucic's rule. A protest in Belgrade involved clashes around Dijana Hrka, mother of a Novi Sad train station accident victim, who began a hunger strike. The EU defence commissioner will meet NATO's secretary general in Brussels to discuss rearming Europe. Additional news is expected from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Germany, and others. Date: 4 November 2025.
