My Sister's Mopping Routine Is So Refreshing, I Had to Steal It
"For many years, I've experienced the fall blues: Days are shorter, nights are longer, and the air is chillier. Energetically, it feels like a season of shedding; trees lose their leaves, routines slow down, and nature clears out the old to prepare for the new. Fall also means more cooking at home for me, which translates to more things inevitably ending up on the kitchen floor and me having to mop it up frequently."
"I have laminate flooring in my kitchen, so I don't usually use a bucket of water when I mop. Too much moisture can seep underneath and cause damage (definitely not renter-friendly). Instead, I typically reach for my Swiffer PowerMop, which sprays cleaning solution directly onto the floor as I go. To adapt my sister's ritual, I transferred a bit of Florida Water into a spray bottle."
Shorter, chillier fall days bring a sense of shedding and more home cooking, resulting in increased floor mess and frequent mopping. A directional mopping ritual begins from the westernmost point moving east to envision clearing stagnant energy, then reverses east to west to invite desired energy. On laminate floors, avoid excess water; use a spray-based mop and a mist of Florida Water. Perform a standard cleaning pass, let it dry, then mist and mop again following the west-to-east then east-to-west pattern. The double pass cleaned deeper, produced a lingering citrus-floral scent, and felt grounding and intentional.
