'I'm at peace.' Lindsey Vonn says her Olympic comeback is fueled by her love of skiing
"I don't think anyone remembers Michael Jordan's comeback. I don't think that's part of his legacy at all,"
"I've already succeeded. I've already won. I was on the podium. I have the record for the oldest medalist in World Cup by seven years. I feel like this journey has been incredible."
"I closed my career and I definitely would like to close that chapter in maybe a better way than I did in 2019," Vonn said Tuesday at the U.S. Olympic Committee's Media Summit in Manhattan. "I feel like I am happy, free. I'm doing it because I love it. I'm not doing to prove anything to anyone."
Lindsey Vonn retired from Alpine skiing in 2019 as one of the sport's most successful competitors and now aims to race at the February Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo. A partial knee-replacement surgery last year convinced her she could return to elite competition. Vonn climbed a World Cup podium in March at the Sun Valley super-G finals, her first podium since 2019. Cortina holds special significance after 12 World Cup wins there and her first podium in 2004. Vonn holds three Olympic medals and eight world championship medals and seeks a different, personally satisfying close to her career.
