Stripes are back in fashion, prominently featured in the Spring 2025 runway collections by top designers. Despite the common belief that horizontal stripes are unflattering, recent insights suggest this is a misconception. Contrary to popular wisdom, horizontal stripes can give the illusion of a narrower figure, while vertical stripes are the ones typically associated with making a person appear wider. This revelation questions the established fashion rules and highlights the bold, vibrant use of stripes in contemporary design, emphasizing their renewed relevance in a stylish wardrobe.
It's not that we've dropped our cultural obsession with thinness. (Hardly. If only!) It might be, at least in part, that the popular almond-mom belief about stripes is actually wrong.
During the Spring 2025 shows, we saw stripes at Prada, Proenza Schouler, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior—practically every collection on the runway.
