"The theme for this year's films is "preventing violence ... healing our city." The 10-day festival launches Wednesday at the Grand Lake Theatre. Some of the shorts, which touch on themes regarding gun violence, immigration and the opioid crisis, include "Run, Hide, Fight: Growing up under the Gun," "De Aquí/De Allá (From Here/From There)," "Coming Home," and more. The Black Film: Unscreened and Unstreamed series presents Black Oakland filmmakers and offers workshops through Dec. 18.
