Blue Bell is a Texas ice cream brand that originated in 1907 as the Brenham Creamery Company. Initially producing butter and sour cream, it began making ice cream in 1911. By 1919, E.F. Kruse became CEO and renamed it Blue Bell. The brand grew popular statewide, especially during the 1960s. Although it faced a recall in 2015 due to listeria, it remains widely loved, offering unique flavors popular in different states. Blue Bell continues as a family business with Paul Kruse leading it into the fourth generation.
Blue Bell originated in 1907 in Brenham, Texas, and started as a farmers' cooperative producing butter and sour cream out of leftover dairy from surrounding farms.
By 1911, the creamery began producing ice cream in a hand-cranked metal can surrounded by cracked ice and delivered it by horse and carriage to local customers.
Despite a 2015 recall due to a listeria outbreak, Blue Bell has remained a beloved brand in Texas and expanded to 24 states.
Blue Bell caters to regional preferences by offering unique flavors, including a key lime ice cream for Floridians and a Dr Pepper sherbet for Texans.
