"The restored cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris is to feature on new €2 coins commissioned by the French national mint, it has been revealed. The Monnaie de Paris (national mint) has commissioned a new design for the €2 coin - the facade of the restored Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. Badly damaged by fire in April 2019, the cathedral reopened in December 2024 after a five-year restoration project."
"The cathedral towers reopened in September 2025 - although work continues on the square and gardens surrounding the cathedral, which are being revamped with a new and greener look. "Like all French people, we were moved by the fire at Notre-Dame. Nearly a year after the reopening, this is a way of celebrating all the craftsmen and women who worked on the site," said Marc Schwartz, head of La Monnaie de Paris."
La Monnaie de Paris has commissioned a new €2 coin design featuring the facade and restored towers and spire of Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. The cathedral was badly damaged by fire in April 2019 and reopened in December 2024 after a five-year restoration; the towers reopened in September 2025 while work continues on the surrounding square and gardens, which are being revamped. The coins have been delivered to the mint and will be brought into circulation gradually as worn or damaged €2 coins are recalled. France recently updated other cent coins to depict Simone Veil, Josephine Baker and Marie Curie. Euro coins have a common side and a national side that can be changed only every 15 years.
