"Doug Bannister, the chief executive of the port has said that their facilities were ready to go live on November 1st for all car passengers but they were waiting to get the green light from French authorities. "Following the successful go-live for coaches and freight on 12 October, we continue to work closely with our French technology provider and border authorities towards starting the EES process for car passengers," said Bannister."
"The Port of Dover began to phase in EES on October 12th for coach, freight and foot travellers, with passengers asked to disembark and register at special EES kiosks at the port. However, the second phase of the launch - extending EES to car passengers - has been put on pause, while EES remains active for foot, coach and freight passengers. In terms of when EES will go live for car passengers, the Port of Dover could not confirm a specific date with The Local."
The Port of Dover is prepared to implement EES biometric checks for car passengers but activation is delayed pending approval from French authorities. Facilities were ready for a planned 1 November start, but French guidance is determining the activation date. EES went live for coaches, freight and foot travellers on 12 October, with passengers disembarking to register at dedicated kiosks. The port requested at least two weeks' notice before starting car passenger checks to allow signage installation and traveller information. The phased six-month rollout experienced prior delays over queue concerns. EES applies at external EU/Schengen borders, not intra-EU travel.
