Michael Peters is training for the London Marathon to raise funds for Anthony Nolan, a charity that links stem cell donors to patients needing transplants. His father battled myeloma, a type of blood cancer, which required a stem cell transplant after chemotherapy. Due to a trial treatment and the transplant, he lived for nearly 20 years after his grim prognosis. Now, having also been a stem cell donor, Michael aims to encourage others to join the registry and bring awareness to this critical charity mission.
The reason I'm running is of course to raise money for Anthony Nolan, to spread some awareness and hopefully encourage some people to sign up to their donor register.
This combined with his stem cell transplant meant that he lived for almost 20 years, living a relatively normal life for most of that time.
