Tipperary's performance in the second half of their match against Cork was remarkable, turning a six-point deficit at halftime into a convincing 3-14 to 0-2 dominion. This performance surpassed previous benchmarks set in historic matches, alongside Kilkenny in 2008 and Limerick in 2021. Nobody anticipated such a turnaround, especially when Cork seemed to be in total control after a goal in the first half. The dramatic shift in momentum ended with Tipperary celebrating a significant victory en route to their Liam MacCarthy coronation.
Kilkenny's first 35 minutes against Waterford in the 2008 All-Ireland final set a high bar with Limerick's opening stanza in the 2021 decider against Cork coming close, but Tipperary's second-half showing against the Rebels tops the lot and is the greatest half in hurling history.
One of the best things about it is that not even the most ardent Tipp fan saw it coming when Shane Barrett rattled their net with the final puck of the first half to put Cork six up and seemingly in complete control.
