In anticipation of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, Rory McIlroy expressed confidence in Jordan Spieth's chances to complete a career Grand Slam, a feat he could achieve this week. Spieth, having already won the Masters and U.S. Open, is vying for this title for the ninth time after recovering from wrist surgery. He noted McIlroy's recent Masters victory, which may have reignited interest in Spieth's attempts. While McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler lead betting odds, Spieth's health might make this his best opportunity yet.
"There's been a number of years I've come to the PGA, and no one's really asked me about it," Spieth said Tuesday during a news conference at Quail Hollow.
McIlroy is the only four-time winner of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, and he's among the favorites to win a third Wanamaker Trophy after finally capturing a green jacket at Augusta National.
Spieth can become the seventh golfer to achieve the career Grand Slam if he wins the PGA Championship. It will be his ninth attempt trying to do it since he captured his last major.
While McIlroy and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler are the betting favorites to win at Quail Hollow, this might be one of Spieth's best chances, especially since he seems to have recovered from surgery.
