Sunscreens and staying safe in summer DW 07/25/2025
Briefly

Skin cancer, with over 300,000 new cases annually, is a preventable disease, yet cases are rising, especially in previously low-incidence regions. Effective sun protection measures, including avoiding direct sunlight, wearing protective clothing, and using sunscreen, are essential. Safety concerns and misinformation about sunscreen may deter people from using these protective products. Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun is harmful and can cause skin damage, aging, and even DNA damage. There's a need for awareness regarding the importance of sunscreen among all skin types, including those with darker skin tones.
The most important thing that I always want to emphasize in any of the research I'm doing is the importance of using [sunscreen].
UV damages all living things. UV is invisible but the damage it causes to humans when it's absorbed by the skin is obvious.
