""We're really not disturbing their rest, but they can still be a little festive," Ricardo said."
""They have this fragile infant in the hospital that they can't bring home yet, and they're probably still recovering themselves, so it's just a little bit of fun in the day and is so healing and inspiring for them," Ricardo said."
""Halloween magic-makers," Ricardo said."
Project Sweet Peas is a volunteer-run nonprofit with 15 chapters that supports families of premature or sick infants in neonatal intensive care and those affected by pregnancy or infant loss. The Southern New England chapter provides support, care packages, and donations to about 12 hospitals across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Volunteers known as "Halloween magic-makers" create hundreds of flat fabric costumes designed to lay over tiny or fragile NICU babies without disturbing their rest. Costumes have included a mermaid, a superhero, and a Celtics player. The costumes offer festive moments that help ease stress and bring healing and inspiration to families.
