Jackson Health System revealed that more than 2,000 patients had their personal data accessed over nearly five years by an employee who aimed to promote a personal healthcare business. The breach, which impacted patient names, addresses, and medical information, occurred from July 2020 to May 2025, although Social Security numbers were not compromised. Jackson Health announced the employee's immediate termination and is cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the incident while notifying affected patients.
Data breaches are unfortunately all too common in the healthcare industry, where sensitive information is frequently targeted.
In this case, Jackson became a victim of an employee who took advantage of his trusted position to access patient information inappropriately.
The internal investigation found that the "unauthorized access" to patient records occurred between July 2020 and May 2025.
Jackson said the employee who accessed the patient data was "immediately terminated."
