Rutgers Disinvites Grad Speaker After He Criticizes Israel
"The School of Engineering was recently informed that some graduating students would not attend their graduation ceremony due to concerns about the invited speaker's social media posts, including one that shared an inflammatory claim. After discussing these concerns with the speaker, the School of Engineering has rescinded the invitation, adding that this decision keeps the focus on engineering students and honors the celebratory spirit of the event."
"Forget a free ride. They've committed genocide. They're running dungeons where they train dogs to sexually assault prisoners. Weapons embargo is the absolute minimum. Sanctions and diplomatic isolation are beyond justified. This we'll sell them weapons won't fly."
Rutgers University's School of Engineering canceled biotechnology executive Rami Elghandour as its May 15 convocation speaker following complaints from graduating students about his social media posts. Elghandour, an alumnus and executive producer of an Oscar-nominated film about a Gazan girl killed in the recent war, had been featured in an alumni spotlight interview highlighting his social justice advocacy. The university cited an April 20 post where Elghandour responded to a congressman's statement about U.S. military aid to Israel, accusing Israel of genocide and calling for weapons embargoes and sanctions. The university stated the cancellation decision aimed to keep focus on engineering students and honor the celebratory spirit of graduation.
