The data, collected from over 260 two- and four-year colleges across the country, paints a relatively rosy picture of students' sentiments on campus this fall against the backdrop of free speech restrictions, tense protests and cutbacks to programs that serve students from racial minorities."

Thirty-eight percent reported an "excellent" or "above average" academic fit, and just under half reported average academic fit. A majority feel somewhat (45 percent) or very (35 percent) supported to explore perspectives and challenge beliefs. Campus climate correlates with learning and disparities exist by race.
