Robotic Surgery Giant Intuitive Discloses Cyberattack
"Upon discovery, we quickly activated our incident response protocols and secured all affected applications. Leveraging the targeted employee's access to the internal business administrative network, the attackers accessed customer business and contact information, employee information, and corporate data."
"Our robotic systems have their own security protocols and operate independently of our internal business network. The attackers did not access the networks supporting its manufacturing operations and its da Vinci and Ion platforms and digital products, which are separate from the internal IT business applications network."
"Hospital customer networks remain separate from Intuitive networks and are secured and managed by customers' IT teams, therefore they are also unaffected. The company says the incident should not have a material impact on its business or financial results, that the attack has been fully contained."
Intuitive Surgical, a major robotic surgery company, disclosed a data breach caused by a targeted phishing attack that compromised internal business applications. Attackers gained access to customer business and contact information, employee data, and corporate records through an employee's credentials. However, the company's robotic surgical systems, including da Vinci and Ion platforms, operate on separate security protocols independent of the internal business network and were not impacted. Manufacturing operations and hospital customer networks also remained secure. Intuitive activated incident response protocols immediately and contained the attack. The company stated the incident will not materially impact operations or financial results and is notifying relevant data privacy regulators.
