Dodgers' Director of Pitching Worked With Roki Sasaki Leading to Velocity Increase
"I think a lot of young, talented players just out-talent leagues and they don't really need to make any type of adjustments. It happens with Americans, it happens with pitchers, with position players with a lot of young players. I just think it was something where he needed some suggestions for guidance and Rob was there and it worked out well."
"Roki has kind of been on his own trying to get his feels and things like that. But he and Rob had a really good session and tapped into some velocity, Roberts said."
"I think that Roki is ... in a good place to do whatever it is to help the team," Rob"
Roki Sasaki has been on the injured list for over four months with a shoulder impingement and has not pitched since May. A recent Triple-A rehab outing showed improved velocity, with his fastball up 4.2 mph to an average of 98.6 mph and six readings at triple digits. Director of pitching Rob Hill worked with Sasaki on mechanics and velocity. Sasaki struck out eight over 4.2 innings and generated 16 whiffs, a season high. Consistency remains the primary concern, and the Dodgers are considering using him as a reliever given rotation strength and bullpen issues.
