Penthouse Catches Uncle Miltie's Eye
"I didn't have to sell the house. But there are too many memories there, you know, after being married 36 years."
"Though he will continue to own commercial buildings in New York, he's not interested in owning a home. He just wants to lease something luxurious in a nice, clean new building--low- or high-rise--with valet parking on the Wilshire Corridor."
"It has a lot of character but needs updating, of course, and that's what the buyers plan to do. It's on a large lot in the area known as 'the flats' and has a back yard, swimming pool and cabana."
Milton Berle, 81, sold his Beverly Hills residence of 19 years for slightly over $3 million to Mark and Laurie Cohen, owners of Crestview Financial. The sale closes mid-March after the property was initially listed at $4.39 million and reduced to $3.65 million. Berle decided to sell due to memories following his wife Ruth's death after 36 years of marriage. He is negotiating to lease a Wilshire Boulevard penthouse for $12,000 monthly. The 60-year-old, 5,198-square-foot house features a 60-foot living room, library, four bedrooms, pool, and cabana. Berle retains ownership of commercial buildings in New York but prefers leasing luxury residential space in modern buildings with valet parking.
