"According to a recent report in The Athletic, three teams have abandoned Pride nights despite hosting them in the past: the Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings, and Utah Mammoth. The Hurricanes have shifted to a 'Hockey Is For Everyone Night" , which the team says includes LGBTQ+ people. The Kings "shifted its focus from a one-off annual Pride Night to multiple Pride/LGBTQ+ endeavors," reports the Athletic. The Utah Mammoth have not announced any Pride-related initiatives and did not respond to The Athletic 's request for comment."
"This week, a Mammoth fan suggested that queer fans takeover an upcoming home game. "Hey @utahmammoth fans since there's no official Pride Night this season, let's make February 25 (vs. Avalanche) OUR night!," said @PuckSlop. "Show up loud, proud, and decked out in the brightest rainbow gear you've got," they posted. "Bring that Utah HC Pride logo the team dropped last year including the Mammoth pride logo wear it, light up Delta Center with it! 🌈🦣""
Heated Rivalry has driven renewed interest in ice hockey, but several NHL teams are not maintaining formal Pride nights. Three teams—the Carolina Hurricanes, Los Angeles Kings, and Utah Mammoth—have moved away from previously held Pride events. The Hurricanes replaced Pride night with a "Hockey Is For Everyone Night" that the team says includes LGBTQ+ people. The Kings shifted to a strategy of multiple Pride/LGBTQ+ endeavors rather than a single annual event. The Utah Mammoth have not announced Pride-related initiatives despite rainbow merchandise and a prior "Happy Pride" post, and fans are organizing an unofficial Pride takeover at a February home game.
