Clapton fire: Huge blaze at block of flats under investigation as column of smoke seen across London
"Crews were met with a well-developed fire, which was spreading. The conditions inside the maisonette that was mostly alight were challenging and firefighters worked professionally and safely to bring this part of the fire under control as swiftly as possible."
"Firefighters worked exceptionally hard and quickly to prevent the fire spreading and causing significant damage to other flats in the building."
A large fire broke out in a block of flats in east London, prompting an emergency evacuation. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters responded to the incident. One resident was rescued and assessed on-site without needing hospitalization. Approximately 20 residents were displaced and found refuge at a respite center. The fire was brought under control by the morning, with no casualties reported. The cause is under investigation, and it is not believed to be deliberate. Damage included one destroyed maisonette and partial damage to five others.
