Looking back at the fascinating history of Havering's newest station as it turns 90
Briefly

Opened in May 1935, Elm Park station marked a significant development in east London, accommodating growing suburban populations. Although the railway line traversed the area since 1885, it wasn't until the 1930s that the station was built due to a deal by Costain. The opening coincided with the Elm Park Garden City project aimed at housing 35,000 residents, significantly boosting local transit, evidenced by increased passage on the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, necessitating more ticket issuance for commuters soon after.
"The official opening ceremony for Elm Park station coincided with the launch of the new 'Elm Park Garden City' - a Costain development project to create a suburb..."
"According to Havering Libraries, Elm Park station was central to Costain's marketing campaign for the area, which illustrated the ease of travel both into London and out to Southend."
