Last week’s London Content Design Meetup allowed participants to move beyond the hype and fear surrounding AI and engage in honest conversations about its current role in content and product design. It became apparent that AI is already present in everyday tasks such as summarizing workshops and creating templates. However, content designers often lack a voice in the development of these AI tools. Some participants expressed shame about using AI, while others remained uncertain about its applications. There was a notable curiosity and skepticism regarding AI's implications for clarity and truth in content creation.
AI is already influencing user experience, but content designers aren't always at the table when these tools are developed. That's a problem. Because AI is content.
We can ask better questions, even if we don't have all the answers. That's not fear. That's maturity.
Some of us admitted feeling ashamed for using AI, worried it might be seen as lazy or cutting corners. Personally, I don't think anyone should be made to feel ashamed for using AI.
What struck me most was the space in between: a place of curiosity and scepticism. A place where we can ask better questions.
