"I started writing this album because I was seeing so much of the world and watching what was happening. I felt like I had something important to say. I was writing this almost for necessity because there were so many people not saying what needed to be said. I feel like I'm a student of Nina Simone, and she said, 'the purpose of an artist is to reflect the times they live in.'"
Ghanaian-Australian artist Genesis Owusu announces his third studio album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, arriving May 15 via OURNESS. Owusu created the album out of necessity, motivated by observing global events and feeling compelled to voice important perspectives he felt others were neglecting. Drawing inspiration from Nina Simone's philosophy that artists must reflect their era, Owusu crafted this project as a commentary on contemporary times. The album features previously released singles including "Stampede," "Death Cult Zombie," and "Pirate Radio." Owusu will tour Australia and Europe in May and June, with select shows alongside IDLES and Royel Otis. North American tour dates have not been announced.
