Plans for a new direct rail service from Wrexham to London are facing significant opposition due to safety concerns at level crossings and line congestion. Network Rail has expressed that current timetable capacity does not allow for additional services and warned of increased collision risks at several crossings, including the Viaduct level crossing in Shropshire, known for trespassing issues. MP Helen Morgan has advocated for further safety measures, and Network Rail is planning to install crossing lights by December as a preventive step.
Network Rail warned the line was already congested and there was not enough timetable capacity for extra services.
Increased use would raise the risk of a collision at crossings along the route and that it could not support the application.
The Viaduct level crossing in Shropshire is used by large groups and is a hot spot for trespassing and fatalities.
North Shropshire MP Helen Morgan has previously spoken out on the safety of the crossing, requesting additional safety measures.
