Over 100 prominent British athletes have signed an open letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer advocating for London's bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The proposed event, set to take place at London Stadium, aims to secure necessary public funding for 2028, promising a substantial economic boost of £400 million. The athletes express their belief that such an event would not only spotlight elite competition but also inspire future generations to engage in athletics, recalling their own experiences at the previous championships held in 2012 and 2017.
"Hosting in 2029 would bring the world's best athletes back to British soil but more importantly, it would inspire a new generation to get involved in the most diverse and inclusive sport there is."
