After being relocated to Richmond Park for four years, a herd of eight fallow and red deer has returned to Greenwich Park. This initiative aimed to prevent disturbances during local facility renovations. Tom Stanier, a park officer, highlights the deer’s shy nature and elegance, noting that they prefer privacy and are not accustomed to human interaction. The park has improved the deer’s habitat with nearby woodlands and wildflower planting to encourage biodiversity, while several deer remain in Richmond Park to help maintain the herd’s genetic diversity.
The deer are shy, anxious creatures. They like privacy. They like their little safe spaces.
You have to stop and take stock of how elegant these creatures are and how wild - they're not used to interactions with humans.
