Legends review Steve Coogan takes on Britain's biggest drug gang
"Legends is a six-part thriller by Neil Forsyth based on the true story of a group of ordinary men and women recruited from the rank and file of Her Majesty's Customs in the early 90s, given three weeks' training and sent undercover to infiltrate and bring down two massive drug cartels that were filling Britain's streets with heroin."
"Steve Coogan stars as former undercover police officer Don Clarke. He puts the team together for the home secretary and HMC's director of investigations Angus Blake despite neither of them seemingly offering any money or support for the project."
"After a fun, if slightly silly, trot through the recruitment process—anyone who asks about overtime or the finer legal details of what they're being asked to do is summarily ejected and only those who put in the extra hours at lockpicking class can expect to make the grade—Don has found his people."
Legends is a six-part thriller created by Neil Forsyth based on true events from the early 1990s. Steve Coogan plays Don Clarke, a former undercover police officer who recruits ordinary customs and VAT investigators to infiltrate major drug cartels supplying heroin to Britain. Despite lacking financial support from government officials including the home secretary and HMC's director of investigations, Don assembles his team through a rigorous recruitment process that eliminates candidates concerned with overtime or legal details. The recruits undergo three weeks of training, including lockpicking and identity creation, before being deployed undercover. Guy, played by Tom Burke, emerges as a lone wolf operator sent to London with warnings about maintaining his false identity while rising through criminal ranks.
