In south-east London, 14 businesses have been publicly identified for underpayment of minimum wage, among 518 employers nationwide owing over £7.4 million. Following investigations by HMRC from 2015 to 2022, these businesses have compensated their workers and incurred fines of up to 200 percent of the owed amounts. Templar Corporation Limited was the most significant offender, failing to pay £298,143.12 to 26 workers. Employment Rights Minister Justin Madders and Baroness Philippa Stroud of the Low Pay Commission stressed the importance of fair wages for workers and the responsibility of employers.
The investigations by His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) concluded between 2015 and 2022, revealing over 7.4 million owed across the UK.
