As positive as his last start was, there's a chance he could be knocked out of the game early."

Extended use of Bassitt or Lauer would reduce their availability later in the series. A loss Monday that creates a 3-1 deficit with Game 5 in Los Angeles would make a comeback highly unlikely. Scherzer could be making one of his final Hall of Fame starts.
