Man charged in home thefts of Sherman, Mariners duo

A Seattle man, Earl Henderson Riley IV, has been charged with multiple burglaries of prominent athletes' homes, including over $6,000 stolen from Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo and more than $194,000 from Julio Rodriguez. The pattern reflects a troubling trend where professional athletes are increasingly targeted due to the expensive items in their homes, often while they're away on games. The FBI has issued warnings regarding organized crime's focus on athletes, adding a layer of concern for personal safety and security among high-profile players.
"All people deserve to feel safe in their homes, and our office will continue to hold people accountable for criminal behavior," King County Prosecuting Attorney Leesa Manion said in a statement.
Prosecutors say Riley was the ringleader in a series of burglaries that started in February and involved stealing more than $6,000 in Louis Vuitton bags from Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo's home.
There have been a slew of burglaries at the homes of well-known professional athletes across the U.S. in recent months. The players have been targeted because of the high-end products believed to be in their homes.
The FBI has warned sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes, highlighting the growing trend of thefts involving prominent players.
