Matt Quatraro, manager of the Kansas City Royals, was ejected during the fifth inning against the Chicago White Sox after arguing with umpire Tom Hanahan. The conflict arose from a call on outfielder Kyle Isbel during a stolen-base attempt, where Isbel was tagged out. Quatraro claimed that White Sox shortstop Colston Montgomery obstructed Isbel's path by placing his knee in front of the bag before receiving the ball. MLB rules state that obstruction is non-reviewable, leading Quatraro to express confusion and frustration over the call and its enforcement by umpires.
I must not have the rule right, because we just don't get it called. I mean, the guy clearly had his leg in front of the bag before he had the ball.
The only explanation I got was that he was trying to get the call right. It's not easy to umpire a major-league game. Things happen fast, but they can get help on that call.
