Brett Berard revealed he had a labrum tear in his shoulder, sustained shortly after being called up to the New York Rangers in mid-November. He wore a brace all season but did not require surgery. Following his recovery, he is now fully healthy and will participate in training camp. Berard attended the Shoulder Check Showcase, a charity event promoting mental health awareness. The event, in honor of Hayden Thorsen who died by suicide, featured numerous NHL players and emphasized the importance of communication and support.
"It happened against Montreal, right when I got called up in November, and it was kind of just lingering all year. I wore a brace all year."
"Having all these players from all different teams, all different backgrounds, states, everywhere, coming in for this event is super-special. It's good to show that not being OK is OK, and everyone's got a support system for them."
