Right-hander Seth Martinez rejected an outright assignment and elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins.
"When I was just getting off the ball, I wasn't expecting for him to cut-block me like that," said Robinson, who spent a few minutes down on the ground as he held his left knee. "Once I felt his helmet hit my knee, I kind of thought another thing, but once the trainers came out on the field and I realized I was good, it took everything off my back. I was just honestly ready to get back in the game."
For all of those calling to replace him, it basically boils down to Lopez being guilty of the same sin every Marlins shortstop has been guilty of since 2011: not being peak Hanley Ramirez. And to be fair, Ramirez wasn't even that in 2011, leading in part to his being replaced at short by Jose Reyes for the 2012 campaign.
Nevertheless, this bit of information from Windy does give the indication that the Heat were disappointed in not only the results for Jaquez, but also his process heading into last year. The hope is that it begins to change heading into his all-important third year, but that's far from a foregone conclusion. This is a huge season for Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright was back at the team's Thursday practice, going through drills for the first time in the three weeks since his knee injury. The development possibly puts Wright in play ahead of their home opener against the New England Patriots on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium. Wright was seen, during a brief media viewing portion of practice, participating in team stretch and then going through cutting drills with a football in his arm.
The Marlins announced a trio of roster moves, including the news that right-hander Christian Roa's contract has been selected from Triple-A Jacksonville. To open up space on the 28-man and 40-man rosters, Miami placed right-hander Freddy Tarnok on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to September 3), and released right-hander Declan Cronin. Roa will be making his Major League debut whenever he appears in his first Marlins game.
MIAMI (AP) - Bryce Harper homered, Brandon Marsh doubled twice and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Miami Marlins 4-2 on Saturday. Jesús Luzardo struck out eight over six innings of two-run ball for the NL East-leading Phillies. Luzardo (13-6) allowed five hits and walked four. Phillies star slugger Kyle Schwarber went 0-for-3 and was hit twice. Schwarber remains at 49 homers since he went deep four times against Atlanta on Aug. 28. He hit a drive to the warning track in the ninth that was caught by centerfielder Jakob Marsee.
The time it took from when he left the field [and boarded onto a helicopter], that's a tough moment for any team. We are really pumped to hear he has feeling and [movement] in all extremities and doing better and better.
Enter Carlos Santana, recently released by the Cleveland Guardians. The former All-Star and Gold Glove winner has certainly lost a step offensively, but the defense is still very much there. That Gold Glove came as recently as 2024, after all, and he's been very good again defensively this year. Even with a dip in power and a paltry .225 BA, he can still be relied upon to work a walk when he needs to.
Nicknamed " Mr. Marlin" for a reason, Jeff Conine was an early face of the franchise back in 1993. He earned All-Star selections in back-to-back seasons (1994 and 1995), just one and two years after the team's establishment. In 1995, Conine was named All-Star Game MVP after launching a go-ahead pinch-hit homer in the top of the eighth inning, ultimately leading to a National League victory.
The Marlins announced Wednesday that they've selected the contract of righty Seth Martinez from Triple-A Jacksonville and placed fellow righty Janson Junk on the 15-day injured list due to ulnar nerve irritation in his right arm. Miami also recalled right-hander Freddy Tarnok from Jacksonville and optioned lefty Josh Simpson to Triple-A in his place. The Fish already had an open spot on the 40-man roster, so a corresponding 40-man move for Martinez wasn't necessary.
