Growth from Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic at center of Heat's youth movement
Briefly

The Miami Heat will focus on its younger roster, with seven players aged 25 and under. Forwards Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic are expected to compete for rotation spots. Coach Erik Spoelstra is optimistic about their development. Jaquez, who averaged 8.6 points in his second season, aims to bounce back after a decline in production compared to his rookie year. Spoelstra noted the need for Jaquez to adapt to how opponents will scout him, emphasizing the importance of evolving his game.
"We had some really good conversations," Spoelstra said of Jaquez while speaking to reporters Saturday following the Heat's summer league practice. "I told him I don't necessarily like the dialogue of you just have to get back to who you were the first half of your rookie year. Everything has got to change, right?"
Jaquez, who was taken by the Heat with the 18th pick in the first round of the 2023 draft, averaged 8.6 points per game last season compared to 11.9 points per game the previous season, along with a dip in field goal shooting percentage.
The Miami Heat will lean on its youth, featuring seven players aged 25 or younger, including forwards Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Nikola Jovic, next season.
Spoelstra expressed optimism that both Jaquez and Jovic will show improvements at training camp, pointing out that adjustments are necessary for continuing success in the league.
