Sources: Rozier, Billups won't be paid on leave
"Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier will not be paid while on leave of absence because of his arrest on federal charges related to a gambling scheme. Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups also will not be paid while on leave, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania. Rozier's salary, which is about $26.6 million this season, paid in installments, will be held in escrow, per sources."
"Billups' salary is $7 million this season and won't be held in escrow -- he'll just lose it until the outcome of the FBI case, per sources. Rozier's attorney said Wednesday that a federal lien filed with regard to the player's tax bill in 2021 was satisfied. The Internal Revenue Service filed that lien against Rozier in November 2023, showing an "unpaid balance of assessment" of $8,218,211.70 for the 2021 tax year."
Terry Rozier will not be paid while on leave after his arrest on federal charges related to a gambling scheme. Chauncey Billups also will not be paid while on leave. Rozier's $26.6 million salary for the season, paid in installments, will be held in escrow pending the outcome. If Rozier is cleared and allowed to return to the NBA, he would receive the held payments in full. The National Basketball Players Association plans to challenge the leave-without-pay decision. Billups' $7 million salary will not be held in escrow and will be unpaid until the FBI case concludes. Rozier's attorney said a 2021 federal tax lien was satisfied and that the actual tax owed then was $9,000, despite a public record showing an $8,218,211.70 assessment.
