A mother in New Jersey, Kathy Denman, was allegedly held at Hazelnut Cafe after her daughter accidentally broke a $1,600 marble table. Denman was reportedly informed she could not leave until she provided her driver's license and credit card information, despite her offer to pay for the damage immediately. The café later established a policy stating that customers must pay for items they break. Following the incident, the café reached out to Denman to apologize for the treatment her family received.
Kathy Denman claimed on TikTok that she wasn't allowed to leave a Jersey Shore cafe without forking over her license and credit card info after her 3-year-old daughter broke a pricey table.
Denman said she stayed behind for another 20 minutes while customers helped pick up pieces of the broken stone tabletop. Nobody was hurt.
Since the mishap, Denman, who lives in Pompton Plains, posted a statement on TikTok saying the café has since called to apologize for 'how our family was treated'.
The incident happened at the Hazelnut Cafe in Lavallette, where surveillance footage showed the little girl hitting the table with her foot.
