At the storm's peak, over 20,500 Con Edison customers lost power, primarily affecting neighborhoods on the East Shore. The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge was temporarily closed, and Staten Island Railway suspended service due to fallen trees on the tracks. A quick-moving storm blasted Staten Island with powerful wind and heavy rain on Friday afternoon, downing trees across the borough, causing power outages and wreaking havoc on the evening commute.
More than 20,500 Con Edison customers were without power at the height of the storm's aftermath, with many outages on the East Shore affecting several neighborhoods.
Con Edison reduced voltage in parts of the East Shore in the aftermath of the storm and asked customers to limit their use of washers, dryers, air conditioners, and other energy-intensive equipment.
Traffic lights at some of the borough's busiest intersections were out during the evening rush Friday, including Hylan Boulevard and New Dorp Lane.
