A woman in Somerville was attacked by a raccoon when she opened her back door late at night to let her dogs out. The raccoon scratched her eye and bit her multiple times on her hands and calf. Despite recovering from shoulder surgery, she fought off the animal with one arm, ultimately managing to reenter her home and call for help. Emergency personnel treated her wounds and administered rabies vaccines. She expressed relief her dog was found and vowed never to let her pets out late at night again.
