Storm Amy brought highest mean wind speed for 65 years in October, Met Eireann says
"Storm Amy brought widespread wet and very windy weather on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th as it passed close to the northwest coast of Ireland moving towards northern Scotland. The highest gust recorded was 148kmh as Donegal had a red warning issued ahead of the violent gusts. There were higher than usual temperatures recorded for October and rainfall was also well above average. As Amy pulled away on Sunday, October 5, high pressure built over the country from the south, which brought calmer weather."
"All mean air temperatures across the country were above their long-term average for the month. The national mean air temperature of 11.61°C placed October 2025 24th warmest in 126 years, but the coolest since 2020. The month's highest temperature of 19.7 °C was reported at three stations, Shannon Airport, Co Clare, Phoenix park, Co Dublin and Dublin Airport, Co Dublin."
"Storm Amy brought violent storm-force winds in early October. Tens of thousands of properties were left without power as strong winds caused chaos. More than 100 flights were across the country during the storm. The highest 10-minute mean wind speed was 111km/h on Friday, October 3, was recorded at Malin Head, Co Donegal. Meanwhile, a gust of 148km/h was also recorded that day, the month's highest gust."
Storm Amy produced widespread wet and very windy weather across northwest Ireland and northern Scotland on 3–4 October, with a highest gust of 148kmh and a red warning for Donegal. Following the storm, high pressure brought calmer conditions from 5 October, and the next two weeks stayed mild and mostly dry but largely cloudy with a few sunny breaks. Later in the month low pressure returned bringing widespread rain and heavy falls at times. Mean air temperatures were above long-term averages, with a national mean of 11.61°C and a peak of 19.7 °C at three stations.
