Ukraine war briefing: Kyiv gets more US-made Patriots and says its forces are holding on in Pokrovsk
"Ukraine has received more US-made Patriot air defence systems from Germany to help it counter Russia's daily barrages, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. More Patriots are now in Ukraine and being put into operation, the Ukrainian president said on social media. Of course, more systems are needed to protect key infrastructure sites and our cities across the entire territory of our state. The Patriot systems are the most effective weapon against Russian missiles and Zelenskyy has pleaded with western partners to provide more of them."
"Russian drones hit a house and killed a man as well as injuring five members of his family in Ukraine's north-eastern Sumy region, authorities said. Two women were also injured in a separate Sumy attack overnight to Monday. The Russians cynically targeted people deliberately, at night, while they were sleeping, regional head Oleh Hryhorov said. Russian missiles started a fire at a business in the central city of Dnipro, injuring one man, and also struck energy infrastructure in the southern Mykolaiv region."
Additional US-made Patriot air-defence systems have arrived from Germany and are being put into operation, with calls for more systems to protect infrastructure and cities. Zelenskyy described the Patriots as the most effective defence against Russian missiles and thanked Germany and Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Russian drone strikes in Sumy killed one man and injured five family members, with two women wounded in a separate attack, according to regional officials who said civilians were targeted while sleeping. Missile strikes started a fire at a business in Dnipro, injuring one, and hit energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv. Russia reported advances in Pokrovsk and claimed to be destroying surrounded Ukrainian formations near the railway and industrial zone, entering the Prigorodny area and digging in, while Ukrainian officials said forces were holding, described Dobropillia as complicated, and reported up to 300 Russian servicemen in Pokrovsk with severe pressure but no gains in the past day.
