Etel Haxhiaj, a Worcester city councilor, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of assault and battery on a police officer and interfering with police. The charges stemmed from a confrontation on Eureka Street during an ICE operation that targeted a Brazilian national. Haxhiaj, an immigrant herself, expressed her commitment to her constituents, especially women and children. Another individual, Ashley Spring, faced felony charges related to the incident, but these were dismissed due to insufficient evidence, as the alleged weapon was found to be harmless.
As both a mother and an elected official, I will always stand up for my constituents, particularly women and children. That's what I demonstrated on Eureka Street on May 8.
I am resolute and unapologetic in maintaining my innocence.
Baby bottles aren't dangerous weapons.
The felony charge against Ashley Spring was dismissed after the prosecutor admitted there was insufficient evidence.
