Their late father, Abdulmanap, regarded Magomed as more talented than Khabib, stating he excelled academically and athletically. Magomed's severe spinal injury at age 18 shifted his focus from sports and led Abdulmanap to support Khabib’s career instead. Despite his talent, Magomed maintains a modest and private life, managing Khabib's affairs away from the limelight.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov acknowledged that while Khabib achieved fame, he considered Magomed to be the more talented son, excelling in both academics and sports.
