Tim Elliott faced Kai Asakura at UFC 319 after a long layoff. Asakura, a recent title challenger, landed effective strikes and controlled early action. Elliott attempted to counter but was largely retreating. The second round saw a shift as Elliott obtained a takedown and secured a guillotine choke. Asakura struggled to escape, ultimately tapping out, which marked Elliott's second consecutive victory since December 2023.
Asakura had found himself submitted by champ Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 310 last December, and was getting a fellow former title challenger in Elliott.
In the opening half of round one, Asakura found a home for his right hand, tagging Elliott at least once.
Round two was competitive early, but as the round wore on, Elliott was able to get the fight down.
Asakura was forced to tap, and that secured Elliott his second straight victory, dating back to December of 2023.
