"THE WOW! SIGNAL takes its name from one of the most compelling interstellar mysteries of the last century: a powerful 72-second radio burst detected in 1977 originating from the constellation Sagittarius with a bandwidth and intensity that suggested a possible extraterrestrial source. The astronomer who discovered the anomaly famously circled the now-iconic sequence "6EQUJ5" and wrote "WOW!" on the printout beside it."
"In typical over-the-top fashion, Muse announced the album by sending a specially-designed video tablet 33km up into the atmosphere to premiere the video for the album's first single, "To Be With You.""
Muse announced their 10th studio album, THE WOW! SIGNAL, set for release June 26 via Warner Records. The album title references a compelling astronomical mystery: a 72-second radio burst detected in 1977 from the constellation Sagittarius with characteristics suggesting possible extraterrestrial origin. An astronomer discovered the anomaly and circled the sequence "6EQUJ5" on the printout, writing "WOW!" beside it. Muse promoted the album announcement by launching a specially-designed video tablet 33 kilometers into the atmosphere to premiere the first single, "To Be With You." The band has scheduled appearances at Milwaukee's Summerfest on July 2 and Quebec City's Festival d'été de Québec on July 17, with additional tour dates potentially forthcoming.
