Even if you talk to musicians and pianists, they know a lot about the rhetoric, how to play something, and what is the accepted style, but in general, they don't tend to study historical context. What I'm looking for, really, is to set these guys in context, so that when we hear the music, we understand where this music came from."

An autobiographical stage show, Hershey Felder: The Piano and Me, will premiere Jan. 17–Feb. 8, 2026 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts. The program will feature music by Wagner, Mendelssohn and others. TheatreWorks Silicon Valley announced the engagement and Felder returns to the Bay Area after Rachmaninoff and the Tsar. Felder's portrayals have repeatedly broken attendance records and span composers including Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Tchaikovsky, Berlin and Gershwin. Felder has produced his solo-composer format since 1998's George Gershwin Alone. Felder aims to illuminate historical context so audiences understand where the music originated. Tickets range $34–$115.
