Sasha Colby, winner of Drag Race, commenced Pride month by officiating surprise gay marriages in Washington D.C. at the Southern-style restaurant Succotash. This event was organized in collaboration with Destination DC and Them magazine, coinciding with WorldPride and marking the tenth anniversary of the historic Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges. Dressed in a bedazzled mitre by Zenobia, Colby married three couples, providing a joyous celebration of queer love alongside festivities, music by Chappell Roan, and warm sentiments from attendees. Colby expressed her gratitude for the event on social media, highlighting its significance.
Today, we’re creating memories and traditions that celebrate love, choice, and community. Sasha’s inimitable spirit brought a new layer of joy to these weddings.
Got legally ordained to serve priestess realness and kick off Pride in DC last week. Thank you @them and @visitwashingtondc! What a beautiful way to celebrate queer love and chosen family.
