The WNBA's New York Liberty are embracing LGBTQIA+ pride this June by hosting watch parties at various queer-friendly bars in Brooklyn. These gatherings enhance the connection between the Liberty and its fans, providing a welcoming space for the community. Not only will fans share their love for basketball and enjoy the games together, but they will also celebrate the ongoing relationship between the Liberty and the LGBTQIA+ community, exemplified by events such as the upcoming Pride Night at Barclays. Coach Sandy Brondello emphasizes that the league celebrates pride not just in June, but throughout the entire season, fostering inclusivity.
At Park Slope's iconic Ginger's Bar, Liberty fans will gather on Sunday, June 22, at 7 pm for the Seattle matchup.... and the kind of regulars who will gladly talk playoff math with you over pool.
As Liberty coach Sandy Brondello told last year, 'We celebrate [Pride] every single day of the week... all season long.'
It shows up in the stands, where fans like Deidree Golbourne (a.k.a. the 'Mayor of Barclays') make Liberty games a safe haven for Black, queer and gender-diverse New Yorkers.
