Rainbow Flags hoisted near Stonewall to mark Pride Month
Briefly

The flag-raising ceremony at Christopher Park in honor of Pride Month highlighted the complex relationship between the LGBTQ community and federal policies. This year's event was marked by the display of a traditional Rainbow Flag on federal land, diverging from previous years when more inclusive versions were permitted. Activists, including Steven Love Menendez and Randy Wicker, emphasized the significance of the flags in representing struggles and victories for LGBTQ rights, despite the challenges posed under the current Trump administration, which has reversed progress in LGBTQ recognition.
We raise these flags at the park each year on June 1 to honor all those who fought for our rights, to celebrate our victories, and to give hope to those who still struggle.
This year’s ceremony marked the ninth annual flag-raising event and the first to take place under the second term of President Donald Trump, who angered many in the community during his first term.
